The FSSoc diplomas are accredited by the University of Strathclyde and entitle the holder to use the postnominal 'FSSocDip'.
Available Diplomas
Examinations for the following Forensic Science Society Diplomas will be conducted this year.
1. Crime Scene Investigation
2. Document Examination
3. Fire Investigation
4. Firearms Examination
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a member of the FSSoc
- Have an appropriate level of professional training and record of appropriate professional activity in a form acceptable to Council (normally 3-5 years) immediately prior to the application.
- Have satisfactory references from 3 referees of a nature and standing acceptable to Council.
Application
If you wish to apply for a society diploma you should request an application pack using the links below. Please note that you will be required to provide three references. Ideally these will be work place referees, including the candidate’s line manager, and wherever possible at least two of the referees will be specialists with at least ten years experience in the discipline for which the Diploma is sought. Overseas applicants are particularly welcome. The diploma examinations are carried out in English but arrangements can be made in exceptional circumstances for the examinations to be translated.This will be at the expense of the candidate and requests must be made well in advance of the examination. Written examinations will be arranged to be as close to the candidate's home as possible and practical examinations will generally take place in the UK.
The closing date for applications for these diplomas is 31 December each year.
Assessment
Assessment for the diploma typically includes:
- A three hour written examination on the subject theory for all diplomas
- A practical examination for all diplomas (up to six hours duration)
- Applicants are also required to submit statements, a portfolio and / or selected case files for selected diplomas.
Application Forms
Society diplomas will be awarded to applicants who successfully complete the examinations and this qualification entitles the holder to use the postnominals 'FSSocDip'. The diplomas are valid for five years, after which they are renewable by reassessment.
