Dr Leon Barron
Dr Barron received both a first-class honours BSc in Analytical Science in 2001 and PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 2005 from DublinCityUniversity. He undertook four further years there as a postdoctoral scientist working within the Irish Separation Science Cluster on the development of miniaturised chromatographic instruments and on understanding the sources, occurrence and fate of drugs in the environment.
He is currently a lecturer at King’s College London on the FSSoc-accredited MSc in Forensic Science and teaches on modules relating to analytical chemistry and toxicology. His research specialises in the design, development and application of instrumental techniques, particularly liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and mass spectrometry toward the characterisation of latent human fingerprints, the identification of explosives and the emerging field of sewage epidemiology. He engages strongly with industry for research, both as the contact for student projects on the MSc in Forensic Science and as leader of his own research group. He has published >25 peer-reviewed articles in leading analytical and environmental science journals and has presented multiple papers at over >50 international conferences.
